TT600R problems?

Hello
I've got a TT600R'2001. Made 2 trips with it to Mongolia and to Georgia. I've done with this bike 25000km.
I'm just about to go for a trans africa trip where I plan to make another 20 000km. I wonder what kind of problems did you have with this bike (secially around 20000km-50000km)?
I'm planning to change the whole clutch before the trip. For the moment it runs greate. I had only following problems:
-speedometer cable replaced(18000km)
-clutch cable replaced(18000km)
-little fire in front light cables (18000km)
-oil leaking from the front fork (25 000km)
-decompression cable replaced (25 000km)

Thx

I have the same model as you, now at 32,000 km. 5th gear needs replacing now. I have replaced the decompression cable twice ( always carry a cable repair kit!). The rear wheel bearings have been replaced( they collapsed at 100kmh two-up with 40kg of luggage!)I put an new chain and sprockets on every 10,000 km. The bike will be taking me from Newfoundland-Alaska-Argentina next year when fixed.

Take a spare gear for the kickstarter mechanism. One of our guys here uses to kick the gear into pieces [in 2 pieces?].

Thanx guys for advises.

leigh, we will take an extra decopression cable each; I will replace wheel bearings and take spare ones; when your 5th gear needs replacing - is it still possible to drive without problems on this 1-4 gears?

FredXTZ, 5min ago I didn't new such thigs exist http://www.horizonsunlimited.com/ubb/wink.gif but I've just looked at the microfishe and there is a part colled KICK GEAR - will take it for sure.

There are loads of threads regarding the 5th gear problem with XT/TTs. A lot of the problem seems to be down to luck. If you go for too long with a damaged gear the scraps of metal will eat your oil pump and other parts apparently.

Interesting topic!

My English vocabulary is probably limited - what is this so called "decompression cable"? I'm going on a long trip too and it sounds like a must-have-a-spare-one.

Erik, the decompression cable is operated by the kick-start and lifts the valve to make it easier to "kick". If you have to kick it many times to start it ( I know you probably have!) it will eventually snap the cable.
It runs from the kick start to the top of the engine behind the Ohlins suspension resevoir.

Thanks Leigh, I've found it.
