tt600 rear air suspension unit

Hi Yamaha Hubbers,

I've got a 1997 tt600s with an air cannister, for want of a better description, on the rear suspension unit. This thing has never worked and I'm not sure what it is meant to do. Can I just take it as it is forever being banged about and is currently held in place by two big jubilee clips? If I did take it off would I need to cover up the end of the banjo bolt which fits onto the cannister? The manual I have for the TT does not cover this type of suspension unit. Apologies if this comes across as a numpty question.

Cheers,

Dicky

Hi,

dont touch this "air suspension unit" that is the extention chamber from your damper and is fiiled with nitrogen. The valve is only there to regase the damper with nitrogen after repairs on the damper. Dont try to fill it up with compressed air ! By the way it is an ÖHLINS damper on your bike some of the best you can get. If the damper does not work right bring it to an expert to rebuild or regase the damper. Its not an job for one eyed submarine mechanics.:oops2:

regards

Thomas

Thanks very much for the info and advice Thomas. Better put the pipe cutters away then!

Ohlins suspension bits are quite nice(from experience) and VERY well designed.

If they should need service/repair, take them to an Ohlins service dealer, not just your average motorcycle shop to be serviced/repaired. I was quoted around $75 to rebuild my rear shock when I had my CBR, which considering the price of the shock, was REALLY affordable.

Thanks Bob,

Would have followed your advice ages ago but Ohlins dealers here in Turkiye are as thin on the ground as honest estate agents. reckon I'll whip it off and smuggle it into the UK with me next time I go back.

Cheers,

Dicky
