tt600 or xt 600
 

hi everyone
i have just joined this forum and was wondering what the differance was between the xt and the tt is the xt the better road bike ?is one more reliable than the other or do they share the same engine and what to look out for when buying .i have seen a 2004 tt600 re for £2295 9000 miles good price or not sorry for all the questions tony

On road, the XT would be more comfortable to live with. Electric start, lower seat height, wider and more comfortable seat etc etc.
The TTR would be the pick if you wanted to do more serious off roading.
Although the engines are the same, the electrical systems are different. I have heard that the TTR is more proned to suffering electrical problems than the XT, due to the quality of the wiring and electrical components?? (Can anyone else confirm or deny this??)

The TTRE is electric start (I have TTR and TTRE). The TTRE is just as good as the XT on road and better off it in my opinion. Me and the Mrs did 24,000 miles Newfoundland-Alaska-Ushuaia on 2 of them, great bikes. Sounds like a good price too.

I have been looking at the difference between the rear sub frame on TT600RE and compaing to by brothers XT600E and it is tiny in comparism, I am worried about my sub frame holding up off roading with hard luggage, I am thinking of getting rid of my current rack and making my own to take some of the strain off the rear frame. And finding a way of beefing up the rear sub frame... has anyone done this, how and where? The TT also has different gearing (slightly lower) and the Oil is not in the frame as it is in the XT, being in a small header tank. One last thing the Suspension is far better on the TT.
That price sounds good, it all depends what you want o use it for.

No need to beef up subframe if you use a decent rack. Mine is from www.offtheroad.de and has done loads including 8500 miles 2 up with luggage, subframe still perfect. The rack bolts on at the rider footpegs and then four points on the subframe, it uses 20mm tube and although it looks a bit rough is strongly made.
