thread condition

hello to all fellow xt owners please tell me why why why why every time i take a casing or part off my 1vj xt600 do i get a thread that strips in one of the holes especially for the engine casings.
i know its a few years old but what a pain in the butt has any body got any ideas of the best repair, i have tried a tip i read on this forum of putting a piece of threaded bar all the way into the hole and then putting a nut on the outside and nipping it up and it seems to work.
but this looks a bit of a bodge has anybody tried using a thread repair kit on crankcases is there enough meat to be able to drill/tap it safely without risking ruining the crankcases or shall i try running a tap down the hole first to see if it will clean the thread up any ideas would be truly apreciated

Running a tap down it can work if it's a crossed thread, but if it's stripped than a new thread is often the only solution. Either tap out to the next size if you can, or get a helicoil fitted.

Stripped threads shouldn't be a problem if you are using a torque wrench. (Shouldn't - but I've known threads that stripped at half the recommended torque )

Threads usually strip 'cos nuts/bolts have been over tightened. If you use anti-seize paste, copaslip or thread lock you need to use (significantly) less torque than 'dry' fitting.

Helicoils are one of life's grrrreat inventions though
