Question Thinking of selling - value please
Unfortunately, due to various family problems, my trip may be doomed before it's truly begun. It doesn't look like I'll be able to get away for at least another six months, maybe even a year. I'm gutted because I've spent so much time, effort and money planning and preparing the bike.

I can't afford to keep the bike here for 12 months doing nothing so I am considering selling it... sob, sob

Could anyone give me an idea for a fair price for the following bike, thanks.

Yamaha XTZ660 Tenere 1997

UK registered
Twin headlamp model
40K miles, regularly serviced (oil, all filters, spark plug etc)
Doesn’t smoke or use oil
Reconditioned carbs (had problems with the originals)
22L fuel tank
Inline paper fuel filter
New Goodridge braided brake hoses
New DID Gold plated X-ring chain & hardened steel sprockets (lower gearing)
Renthal bars
Reinforced alloy hand guards
Heated grips
Smoked windscreen
Bash plate
Engine protection bars
Laser Pro Duo exhaust

Green colour, great condition (mechanically & cosmetically), this bike has been well looked after, good on fuel (200 miles before reserve on current gearing)

Comes with:

2 sets of keys
All documents inc. full service & parts manual
Datatag security
Garmin eTrex GPS & holder
Brand new Buffalo expanding panniers with rain covers
Compression straps & bungees
10L fuel jerry can
Leather tank protector and tank bag (specifically for this bike with matching colour scheme)

Oxford Boss lock
Complete puncture repair kit inc. tyre levers, foot pump, CO2 kit, patches etc
Complete tool kit inc. tool roll, socket set, adjustable spanners, screwdrivers, Allen keys etc
Box of various small spares e.g. oil, wire, connectors, nuts & bolts, tape etc
Home made rear bag rack
Home made exhaust protector
Scottoiler (not fitted)
Old sprockets (good condition – higher gearing)
Old chain (not great, but would get you out of sticky situation)
Original brake hoses which have no splits (good for emergency spares)
Spare handle bars (old with slight bend)

It could do with new tyres in about 1-2000 miles, but apart from that it’s overland ready. It’s currently running Trailwings but I have a quote for new TKC80’s from M&P in Swansea: £106 for the pair.

If required, I could also include the following for a negotiated price:

Shoei Hornet DS helmet (size L) only 2 months old, used but excellent cond (never been dropped)
Neo waterproof / breathable, armoured jacket with removable lining (size L)
Neo padded leather gloves (size XL)
Highlander army boots (size 11UK, 45 EU) almost new
Waterproof over trousers
Brand new Overboard waterproof roll top bag (60L) with backpack carry straps
Quechua 2 Second two man tent
2 x camping mats
MSR Dragonfly pressure petrol stove
Pots
Knife (Mercworx David – advertised elsewhere)
Travel laptop (Acer Aspire On – advertised elsewhere)

With all this, you’d be ready to hit the road anywhere!

You won't get value for all those extras - better to sell them separately. 200 miles to a tank tho ? How the hell do you do that ? I've never got anywhere near that.....

Wow! £800 - £4500, that's quite a spectrum! Somewhere in the middle would suit me. Can anybody else give an approximation?

You're probably right about the extras, but it just seems easier to sell it as one package.

As for 200 miles to a tank... I don't know how it does it, it just does. I've marked the throttle position for the opening of the second carb and I try to cruise just on one if I can. Last time I went for a good ride, we were two up in and out of the foot hills of the Peyrenese and it still managed about 185 miles before reserve. 200 is easy if you're on your own and treat it sensibly. It is a 22 litre tank though. Also if you put the road sprockets back on, you may even do better than that.

Its getting a little late in the season in the Uk for getting the best price, I bought my 2001 registered xtz last december after watching biketrader and e-bay for several months, most were going for between £900 for a 1990 through to £1490 for 1998,
I paid £1000 but then I needed a few "essentials that you are offering like the Lazor-pro, braded hoses, chain and sprocket, and engine bars that have run to probably £450

I would be happy to get yours for about £1400 without all yhe "loose" extras, (if I didn't already have one)

ps; My fuel consumption is similar, getting between 175-185 miles to reserve

Hi Witchety Grubb, yes, it is a great bike, but to be honest I'm not totally sure about selling it... I'd rather not, but my trip has been delayed and I don't think I can afford to keep it hanging around.

I am in South of France now but I will be heading up to UK in the next couple of weeks.

As for what I want for it, well that was the point of this thread, to see what people thought it was worth. I reckon that £2000 would be a fair price for the bike and bits (not the extra extras!) but when I've definately decided what to do I'll post here and move the bike to the "for sale" forum.

I know what you mean about it being the wrong season, but if I hang on until Spring/Summer, I might be ready to go again! It's a crappy situation for me.:confused1:

Thanks for your valuation - I'm still not sure what to do. I put this thread up to get an idea of value to see if it made sense to sell. If I can justify keeping the money tied up in it for another 6 months or so then I may hang onto it.

If not, if I do decide to sell I'll post here then move the bike to "for sale" forum with piccies.

Pm'd you re my Suzuki DR650SE which is for sale. It is back to original specs but have all the overland gubbins to go with it.

Hmmm, thanks for your message. I cant reply yet as I dont have enough posts. Your bike sounds good but I dont know much about DRs, I was looking for an XT or similar. I have about £2-2.5K to spend. What do you want for yours?

Thanks to all for your opinions and interest.

I have decided to keep the bike (thanks to a mate who has offered to keep it garaged), and hopefully I will have everything squared away in 6 months or so - then I can get back on the road

I must say that I was more than a bit depressed at the thought of letting it go - I love it. I think I've made the right choice.
