Tank range and reserve

Hi,

Just finished the first tank of petrol on my newly bought XT600e (1992). I got about 107 miles from a full tank but only 3 miles on reserve til it died completely (luckily outside a garage!).

Is this right? The reserve seems very short. I worked it out to about 49mpg (11mpl) although it was old petrol in the tank now with totally fresh stuff it may be better.

How does this sound to you more experienced guys?

Robin

first observe, ride at least 1000 kms, then calculate average consumption.
normal fuel consumption ranges between 5 and 5.5 l/100 kms.
if it is more, check carb-setting.
renew air filter.

regards
klaus

hHi Robin, your normal tank sounds spot on - mine does between 100 & 110m before switching to reserve, but then reserve lasts another 25 - 30m before running out. Best I've ever done is 150m before running completely dry. Sounds like your reserve tap isnt working properly.

Hi Ted,

thanks for that, I'll check the reserve tap. do you know if they are cleanable or if I'll need a new one?

Cheers

Robin

Don't know, but sure it is if you undo it and take it apart.
