Tank for 1VJ
Hi
I'm looking to replace the leaking tank on my 86 1vj,and was wondering if anyone has ever fitted a smaller tank,I dont use the bike for touring anymore, but still trail ride on it,where a smaller tank would be of more benefit. Just wondering if any one has any ideas as I don't have a breaker nearby where I could try some differrent ones,Thanks, Roy

Hi'I have a 3aj onto which is now a 18 to 20 litre acerbis tank (depnding on which advert and who's selling one ). Reason for doing this is the same as your own, to "off road!". I tried a 1vj tank suitably "reprofiled" to fit a 3aj top tank mount so i could remove the fairing. This was still too heavy/wide. The acerbis tank was from german ebay for a 1vj, now modded the 3aj top tank mount and a bracket fabricated to hold the side mounting of the tank to the original frame mounts. This tank allows more air around the cylinder head than the standard 1vj tank and is much lighter. There is one on german ebay at the moment listed under "tenere". Mine was 29 euro for the tank and about 20 euro for the postage. There's no picture on german ebay of the tank but I could send one of my tank on a 3aj.(Original german ebay picture)
Cheers, Russ. |
