Tachometer gearing

So I finally found a guy that was able to repair my tachometer cable and it does work however, I replaced my original 1984 XT600 tachometer with an aftermarket tachometer meant for a DT175 as the original was completely wrecked (parts were glued together by the previous owner, globes blown, numbering was faded, etc).

The gearing is definitely different as it only revs to 3000rpm on the DT175 tachometer but I cannot figure out how to change the gearing as I opened the old one up completely and did not find any gears inside of the meter itself.

Should the gear within the tachometer drive gear on the engine be changed to a DT175's gear to get it to work properly?
