Won't Run

Hi Everybody,

Having a little trouble with my 1992 XT600E at the moment any help or advice would be greatly recived, here's the problem:
The bike will start as normal and will rev when the choke is ON and you turn the throttle, but if you knock off the choke the bike ticks over fine but dies the second you try to increase the revs.

Has anyone else had a problem like this? i would like to hear about it.

Thanking you in advance,

Nigel.

tell us more!
since when do you have this problem?
any maintenance work performed before?
after how many minutes do you push back the choke?

Could it be a blocked secondary jet?. From what I understand of carbys, there is an idle jet and an operating jet. Don't know if the XT has this set up, but could be a possibility.

Thanks for the quick reply's fella's,

Hi Klaus, it just started overnight, i parked the bike running fine and came out the next morning and had this problem, i did no work on the bike before this and about one minute before pushing back choke (depending on Temp) the engine cuts out the moment i turn the throttle unless choke is on.

Hi Ben,

Yep i was thinking along the same lines as yourself, but i wanted to try and make sure it's not an electrical fault before i go at the carb's(i'm not the best with carb's).

Thank's again,

Nigel.

okay, i agree with ben, sounds like a carburettor problem.
first check for false air: while engine is running, spray brake-cleaner on and at the circumference of the carb. if revs are responding on this, false air is coming in somewhere.
if not, you should dismount and clean the carb. don't worry, the xt600-carb is compared to others relativly simple. a little help you may find here: http://www.xt600.de/xt_technisches/%...r/vergaser.htm
of course it's in german but at least you may learn something from the pics.
good luck!

Hey Hey,

Thanks for the help, took off the carb and gave it a cleaning and i'm back on the road again, must have been some dirt in the main jet.

Thanks again,

Nigel.
