Struggling finding a replacment xt600e caliper

Having no luck in finding a replacement caliper for my XT600e (1998) so time for a re-think. I have got two potential solutions and want to see what forum users think so here we go ;

1.Use a DTR 125 rear brake caliper. I have been told that this will work and have also seen mention of this being OK on various sites. However I am a little apprehensive that it may not be “man” enough” for the job

2. Use a banjo bolt with a bleed nipple in it.

Any comments on which of the two seem a better short term solution, much appreciated as I wanna get back on the bike!!

No.2 will be cheaper.

No.1 is probably fine. Lots of stuff is interchangable between the DTs and the XT600s.

Lastly, keep an eye on eBay. I got my 2nd hand one (with new pads and mounting bolts) for £40. It took a few weeks to pop up but came up B.I.N. so I did...

The calipers are the exact same one! I've used it (actually still am using) the one off my 2002 DT125R on my 1990 XT600E

Tonite there i set about a bodge to ma front caliper, I took it off an sprayed it liberly with wd40 on the pistons. put the usual screwdriver in there moving the pistons a wee bit at a time. litterly a mil or two... sprayin again... managed to then pump up ma brake again after fitting it back on.. hit it a few times wi a soft hammer, then poured Boiling hot water over the caliper.. now it seems to work.. not great but it works, an when its still stickin a wee bit its just enough to be able to push the bike around.. tomoro al give ut a run an see what happens.. but a will be taking ma soft hammer with me...thats if it doesnt just thought ad let ye know. but a think am gonna still get it overhauled.. i was at stafford last week at the Bike show..an a got a card fae a company who refurbs calipers,, an what a job they make o them... al let ye`s know am outcome tomoro an if a decide to refurb...

The seals dont like wd40 ect, they're a bit speciel because theyre made to resist the brakefluid.

So do rebuild the caliper, you can gently wirebrush the pistons to remove small rust-spots, when removed.

Check the inbox, I've send you some PM's
