Stock jetting question

Is the stock jetting suitable for elevations ranging from 5500 to 9000 ft? I felt the bike was running a little hot at 5500-6000 ft. with normal commuting and a bit of highway riding. I am wondering if I should raise the needle a notch or increase the main jet size? I think the pilot is fine, if not a bit big at a #48 size for my elevation. What do you guys think? Is the needle in these carbs adjustable or do you need to buy a spacer to raise it?

Edit: Everything is stock on the bike, including exhaust, airbox, jetting etc...

Thanks!

Alfredo

Higher elevation = less air = runs rich.

Defenitely not

But there is also no reason to panic.

Remember, the jet size is not that important - only determines full throttle mixture. It is the needles that deterine the mix between idle and full throttle.
Do not raise the needles - this enriches - lower it one or two notches. To check the mix for correctness at that altitude, a dynojet run is needed, or the less precise method of plug chopping, but that only works with leaded fuel.

As to idle jet, do not worry to much (yet) on the size - you can adjust the idle mix with the adjustment screw. See my numerous other posts .... :-)
