Starting Problems

Hi All,

My bike seems to be going through a period of having problems. At the moment the latest is that starting the bike is becoming more difficult.

And finally this morning it didn't start at all.

Its an XT600 Tenere 1988 (Electric Start). My friend said it sounds like theres not enough compression. I have had the problem before and re-charging the battery helps.

Two things spring to mind - low compression or battery not charging.

Any thoughts and things to check would be appreciated.

Scott

first connect her to a well-charged car battery. if she doesn't resist to start then, you should buy a new battery!
check also wether the cables are properly connected to the battery.
if the battery is not the problem you should check every part of the ignition system, starting from the spark-plug and ending with the cdi-unit. measure the resistance of the parts and compare them to the nominal values.
good luck and let us know!
