Hi Klaus,
Mine runs at 90c... I've made all the mods you've recommended... do you think that 90 is OK or is my engine still overheating for some reason ?

I live in the Pyrenees now and its quite warm here so maybe that temperature us about right.... in which case why I ahave I got a spark plug problem ?

Call in if you cross the Pyrenees ever,

Simon

Hello Klaus,
Hope you don't mind me taking the opportunity but I have recently aquired a very nicely rebuilt 1VJ and I want to keep it that way.
How long do you need to warm up XTs for from cold before you can ride away?
Mine starts on the button with the choke out but the choke doesn't like to stay out so I have to hold it to keep her going.

I am have got used to starting and riding with my old Boxer as per BMW instructions. Is it the same with XTs?

Thanks very much in advance

Steve

@nomiskx:
as long as oil temperature is below 120°c no problem (assuming that you use an oil better than API SE).
check jet size in your carb.

@stephen:
usually a minute or so iddling is more than enough.
this is just to make sure that oil has reached cylinder head.
to reach an oil temperature of 80°c, the engine needs at least 20 km riding (air temperature between 15...25°c). avoid high revs and strong acceleration during this period.
under rainy conditions oil will never reach this temperature (water cooling).
the 1VJ choke cable is a trouble-maker. dismount it and replace with the choke of a 2KF/2NF/3TB/3UW/4PT. will fit 1:1.

regards
klaus
