Speedometer from miles to km
My speedo has miles on it, but im used to km pr h. Is it possible to change the sheet whith the numbers on, or must i change the whole speedometer housing to another?

You can get an adaptor that goes on the back of the speedo and gears up or down the cable speed, then you just need to stick something saying 'kp/h' over the mph label

You could learn to multiply and divide (my solution for many years). You could memorize some of the obvious points, like 60/100, 30/50, then interpolate. Or you could find a few waterproof stickers, cut them up, stick them to your speedometer window and do the obvious thing with a waterproof laundry marker. This last will still require that you use the former two when converting gasoline consumption, odometer readings, maintenance intervals, etc. etc. etc.

Or: try something more expensive. Your choice.

Or just learn your 16 x table parrot fashion, like kids at primary school do with 1 to 12

mph = kph
10 = 16
20 = 32, two sixteens are thirty two
30 = 48, three sixteens are forty eight
40 = 64, four sixteens are sixty four
50 = 80, etc
60 = 96, etc
70 = 112
80 = 128
90 = 144
100 = 160

And just learn the actual values on your speedo for the common speed limits in the country you ride most in, ie: 70kph = 44mph, 110kph = 69mph.

Or if that's too difficult, you can round them off too, you won't get a speeding ticket for being 3 or 4 kph over a speed limit, and your speedo is not that accurate anyway

20 = 30
30 = 50
40 = 60
50 = 80
60 = 100
70 = 110
80 = 130
90 = 145
100 = 160

That's how I do it, I don't do any mathematics, I just know what they are from memory, comes to you without thinking after a bit of practice.

My 1990 XT600E stock clocks had both miles and km displayed.

I'll try to take the best shot I can with the max quality of the camera
and you can make a sticker and put it on the inside.

How about that?


I went on and got myself a Trailtech Vapor computer stealth version with aditional light housing.. it's pretty good!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
