Once again the quest for the Holy Grail !!

The ideal tyre for everything.

Over the past 11000 kms I have worn out two rear Bridgestone Trailwings - great for grip on the road not very good offroad.

I would like to fit new tyres that last a bit longer and improve the offroad handling without losing the grip on wet tarmac!!!
Ok - I know that compromise is inevitable but is there a good road tyre that has better offroad use than the Trailwing?
I confess that 95% of my riding is on road, often poor surfaces, but I do like the occasional trip offroad whenever the chance occurs.

What trailwings? I've found the TW41/42 and TW47/48 a good alround mainly seal tyre.Best dual purpose is TKC80,I can't believe how these grip on seal yet they are fantastic in gravel and even handle NZ mud real well.

Thanks for the reply - I was seriously considering the Conti's and was hoping for feedback on their grip on tarmac; I might just give them a try.

Stay away from the Conti's. They are useless and dangerous. Go for Michelin T63.

The Conti Twinduro vs Michelin t63 debate again... I can report that the Conti's are an excellent tyre choice, I've worn several pairs out (rears last ~ 2500 miles) with a mixture off offroad, road and competitive trials. On road, in wet or dry, you can corner extremely hard and abuse the brakes to no ill effect... off road, with a security bolt run at ~15psi and they are good other than in deep mud. Being mainly an offroader, I've changed to an 18" rear wheel & run a Pirelli trials tyre - whilst it's better, I still got up most things with the Conti... it was that good.

I have found a better rear though, if you have an 18" rim, an IRC - a bit more aggressive than the Conti but still good on the road, which I'm running with a Conti front.

I have just arrived in Egypt from Cape Town on a set of Conti TKC 80's. ive done 17000km on the front tyre which still has plenty of tread left and about 12500km on teh rear (i fitted it in Malawi), the rear id say could do another 3000km. Ive taken a very rough route ( West Tanzania, Lake Turkana, plenty of piste bashing in Sudan) and i have had NOT ONE puncture!!! Bridgstone extra thick tubes may have helped.

I rate the Conti's very highly, though im not sure how they do on wet tar.
