So many hoses!... XTZ660 carby advice

Hi Guys,
I have recently pulled apart my XTZ660 carby, and am wondering why both air vent outlets have to go out into a T junction and come out with two more hoses.
Why can't they just have one hose running straight out of the outlet?

The main reason I ask is not only curiosity, but because most of the hoses are damaged, so I'm going to replace them all...... maybe tidy it up a bit with less hoses if allowed.

Thanks for your help.

I am no mechanic, but my guess would be that it is for equalising the pressure in the two pipes. I await the views of someone who knows what they are talking about!
