Screen for an '86 XT600 Tenere

Hello all,

I know that this is not normally available the '86 XT600 Tenere, since they have the little plastic cowl around the headlamp - which is useless on the road. I know its a long shot, but any chance that anyone knows whether a custom extension (for behind the cowl..?) or screen is a possibility, or do I just resign myself to hanging on for dear life over 60kmph?

Thanks all!

Hi if you have the 1VJ model I am not sure how big the screen is but my 1VJ has an after market twin headlight with screen. There was a guy selling something similar on here a few weeks ago, a friend of mine has an acerbis front fairing on his 1VJ this has his oringal square headlight but the fairing was designed to fit the 1VJ so may be difficult to find try german e bay
If you just need to extend your screen you can use an old crash helmet visor and attach to your screen.

Hey Bolla - thanks for the info,

I've attached a photo of what mine looks like - which is the single square headlamp with the traditional small plastic cowl.

I'm in Richmond. Any chance you know how far back the thread was for the guy that was selling them on here, and was it on the yamaha tech forum? I'll take a look on the German ebay as well. Also, good idea about the old crash helmet visor - although not sure that will look that great or be that secure...?

Jupiter, I have used the screen of my xtz660 on my 1vj.

I just bolted it to the front of the original headlight cowl using alloy screen bolts and rubber well nuts (screen nuts).

It works well and looks reasonable.

Any screen of a suitable size will do the job, go have a look in your local bike breakers.

Hope it helps Sam.

ps if I could work out how to attach a pic I would!

How to load a photo

Hey scottish sam,

Thanks - sounds like a plan. I would appreciate seeing some close up photo's of how you attach it - I'm afraid I'm not the handiest of people. If you do have some photo's - the way to upload them here is to use the 'manage attachments' button below the box that you type your message in, at the bottom of the page, once you click on the 'managee attachments' button, and the rest should be fairly self explanatory.

Acerbis used to make a screens for your bike (part number 35-04 or 35-03), try Bert Harkins (UK Acerbis distributor) or DAVID LAMBETH RALLY & OVERLAND (XT specialist, lists extended screens on his site). The screens arn't exactly high tech and I'm sure you could make one up with an old helmet visor as mentioned or any piece of suitably sized plasitc, or the courier trick of a sliced 5 litre plastic oil can 'bodged' into place, which works surprisingly well and is as cheap as can be.

Hi Brian,

Thanks for the info - I'll give both a try!
