Scotland anyone???

Hello, Im just wondering how many of you lot are from Scotland? Im based in Moray and was wondering if any of you are up for some off-roading day trips or the likes? I have afew mates that ride road bikes, but it means Im always left to explore the forest tracks/green lanes ect myself, it would be good to have some company, or maby some of you know some good spots? Either reply to the thread or pm me. Happy riding!!!

send a message to the Scotland communities, (in the left hand column), thereby you'll get more in touch with more scots!

Happy green laning!

Hi Matey,

I'm down in the borders and I'd be up for meeting up for a bit of forest capers. Unfortunatley we have a new baby due any day so I reckon I'll be out of commission for the summer. :(

I should hopefully be back home in Edinburgh around Oct/Nov and will then start the dreaded task of looking for work again and resuming some kind of normality, whatever that is now...

Am always keen to meet up for a few beers/rides etc!

wanderingscotsman 15 Jul 2008 09:12

As there’s been a few posts on here I thought I’d say the Edinburgh community has been getting together a couple of times recently for beers. Only been around 3-5 people but the last one was to say hi to a couple just moved over from Vancouver. Next beers 7th August – sign up to the group to get more info when the emails fly around.

Trail Riding in Scotland

Hi folks.

I'm based in Edinburgh too and would be up for some exploring some trails.

Has anyone any experience of Kielder forest?

It's just a thought as it's not too far from Edinburgh and you can get to it using B roads and single track lanes through the borders. Unfortunatley I reckon you'll have to tell me all about it as I'm still wainting for her indoors to present me with my second born.

PeteXTR 21 Jul 2008 23:48

I have experience of Keilder albeit in a 4x4, not had a chance to play offroad on my new Tenere yet :(. There are miles and miles of track in the forest - only one is legally driveable and that is the forest drve which runs between Keilder Castle and Redesdale. The majority are gated but that wont really stop bikes if you don't mind going around the gates (through the gullys etc).

Hello! Sorry, I started this thread a month ago and havnt been able to reply to anyone as my net has been down. Anyway... Its cool afew of you seem up for it, only problem for me is that you all seem to be in edin-burger, but I guess that at least some of you lot will be able to meet up easily enough.
Basacily, as we all know you cant really go bloody anywhere in Scootland offroad on a bike, which as one of you pointd out if you dont mind going round gates then its no bother, and I dont mind at all!!!! There are afew forest trails near me, nothing to write home about though, but if any of you are up this way (Im in Moray) then let me know. My new thing is similar to munro bagging, except I do it on a bike!:thumbup1:, but as we know lots of people hate this:nono:, so it involves getting up in the early hours of the morning and going for it. I have done afew of the hills and mountains like this, the most well known mountain being Cairngorm which I did on my 2004 ktm 950S at 3AM, I thought my arms were gonna fall off when I got down. I have to ofcourse check the hills first, I usually ride them on my mountain bike first just to make sure they are do-able. I going to post pics of my mini-adventures soon...hopefully...when I get round to it! I know this would/will put alot of peoples hairs up, but if there were places to go riding then I/we wouldnt have to do things like this. I dont want to piss people of and thats the main reason for doing it so early in the morn (that and the fact I wont get caught then!). Sorry if this angers any of you. Anyway like I said, if any of you are up this way give me a shout. Cheers

we've been talking about doing some riding, instead of just drinking beer in town. maybe we need a date set, and then head off somewhere mid-highlands? that should make it do-able for the Borders guys as well. nothing fancy required, just a space for (I'd reckon) 6 or so bikes and tents.

I think Matt was suggesting the idea of arranging a site for the overnight, and we just get there. So if you guys want to off-road you arrange yourselves a meet up. Others can come up on a scenic road ride.

I reckon September, third week, so 20th and 21st. Seems a long time away, but hopefully we can get the core bunch all with the same weekend free.

wanderingscotsman 31 Jul 2008 13:29

Sounds good to me - I'll pencil it in.

Matt Cartney 31 Jul 2008 13:43

Me too. Can set aside that weekend as well.

Matt :)
