Retrieving socket from bottom of crankcase

Looking for advice from anyone who can help. Was rebuilding my 34L Tenere last Sunday and after installing the cylinder I dropped the 12mm socket down where the camshaft chain runs. It then rolled down the bottom and through a cavity in the crankcase. How do I get this damn socket out?. If I remove the flywheel, what it that cavity like at the base. I do not want to split the cases or if I have to I do not want to replace the gaskets. I hate this bike, I just want to rebuild it and sell the pox ridden thing I hate this model.
HELP!!!

better still, use a magnet on a stick so you can get the magnet and socket back out rather than add to the detritis in there ;-)
