Replacing crankcase and bearings XT600 (parts compatibility)
 

Hi, I've finally got a bit of extra cash to I'm going to replace the damaged crankcase and bearings on my 34L. There's a few crankcases on ebay Germany, what versions are compatible with the 34L? I'm guessing it's all kickstart models but not the electric starts?
Also, I was going to buy the bearings from CMS NL but their listings only show a 49R (which as far as I know was the USA designation but from the same year) so I'm guessing the engine and bearings are the same? Just need to get confirmation before I buy parts! Thanks!

edit: Here's a quick overview of the bearing numbers for the 34L. Read through the whole post as there is important information in it!

Drive Axle:

Crankshaft:

Jesus, the RHS balancer shaft bearing is an obsolete part, it usually costs almost €160 :eek:
Here it is(n't) on CMS: Bearing, Cylindrical (5y1) Yamaha - 9331392513 93313-92513
I've checked numerous other sites and can find only one for sale on ebay for €50 plus postage which is a lot better than €160 so I'm wondering should I snap it up or.....
Has anyone used a non-Yamaha bearing here? I realise it wouldn't be as good but at a fraction of the price...

I took my bearing to a local bearing supplier and they measured the internal and external diameter of the bearing, went round the back and brought one....really cheap.....I rebuilt the motor and still good...

I guess it's a case of You always end up paying at some point... I'm going to have to put it further down my shopping list and concentrate on getting some more essential items for now.

What do ye think of...
 

I'm looking at a crankcase from a 2NF which was a resticted version of the 2KF (smaller intake manifolds). Here says that the alternator must be changed but I'm presuming that's only if I was changing the whole harness to accommodate side stand switch etc.
So, looks good to me, just waiting for a few more photos from the seller. Here's a pic - I'd appreciate your comments/suggestions!

Some bolt-holes cracked, others have been stripped and repaired. There's a piece of the case which stops the cam chain guide from moving too far but it has been broken off. It's behind the fly wheel so presumably got knocked off when a previous owner/mechanic tried to take off the fly wheel.
Surprisingly it's 100% functioning (for now), just not pretty and the threat of something going wrong is floating at the back of my mind...

Anyone know the part number for the LHS crankshaft bearing? It's not on the microfiche but I thought I had come across somewhere on this site (or maybe another site) but I can't find it now!
RHS part number is 93306-30702-00
Can anyone confirm the correct bearing?

I think part #2 is actually the counterweight/crank, I don't think the bearing hasn't been given a part number..

edit: ignore me, just re-read your post and realised what you actually meant...

hi I have uploaded 2 pages from my tt600r parts .it uses a xt600 engine ,have a look at ebay 380482205661 it looks as if the crank ,bearing and cam chain cog are sold as one from Yamaha, have a look at kedo.de ,they do both sides lh 90057 and rh 90058, I hope it helps steve

Thanks Steve, just got an email back from Kedo to say the same. I was hoping to use Yamaha parts if I can - not if I have to buy the whole left side for 900 quid though!
While searching I did come across people saying they were able to remove the cam chain sprocket to replace the bearing but never talked about what bearing they used as a replacement.

So, from this site it looks like it could have been the same set-up as used on the XT 500.
The RHS bearing is the same as on the 34L parts fiche (93306-30702) and the LHS bearing matches the information you just gave me there 6306 (30x72x19).
So, it looks like 93306-30630 (which supercedes 93306-30622, which in turn supercedes 93306-30616) is the one to go for.
Whew! Just for clarity I'll put this information together later this evening on the original post for future reference.

When it comes to buying non-OEM bearings unless I can find a seller with ALL the bearings the price of postage would drive up the overall price (I'm in Ireland and a lot of these sellers are in the US with higher postage rates than bearing cost).
The main problem for me is the number of different type of the same bearings out there. Have a look at: Koyo
I understand (in a general sense anyway) the C3, C4 etc. but not sure of the rest of them and how to get an exact match to the original Yamaha part.
So, I think I'm better off going for the OEM bearings.

Except for... the RHS balancer bearing

This obsolete part is quite expensive if you can find it so I went looking for an alternative. On the German language parts fiche you sent me Mezo the part number is 93313-92513 (with 6305 handwritten next to it). On the XT600 50T parts catalogue taken from tenere.co.uk though the part number is 93306-30541.
This bearing (the 93306-30541) is also shown on the parts fiche on cmsnl and partzilla as being the RHS balancer bearing for the 1984 XT600L.

CMSNL says it is superseded by 93306-30534 which is in turn superseded by 93306-30560. And I think the 93306-30560 here means it's a 6305 which would match what was handwritten in the 34L parts catalogue. Also the photo on cmsnl of that bearing shows "KOYO", "6305R" and "SH" (which I think stands for Special Heat Treatment) stamped on the bearing.

So, I think 93306-30560 is a suitable replacement for the 93313-92513 from the original 34L parts catalogue and at 22 dollars on partzilla it even seems cheap compared to the 160 EURO that the original bearing would have been. It seems right to me anyway but let me know if you think I got it wrong (or right even!). I'm still looking into it so will post back if I can find any more information on it.
