Search the HUBB for K&N - there was a fair bit of discussion on this recently.
Speaking generally for ALL bikes: If you're planning on riding off-road AT ALL keep the stock airbox. Bolting filters straight onto the carbs usually equals a power loss due to the loss of still-air volume. All modern engines have huge airfilter boxes for a reason. Exhaust mods are more likely to be an improvement, but even there you have to be careful - often they are just louder and/or lighter. Usually you have to tweak the carb settings to get an improvement with a "performance" exhaust, otherwise you can have a loss of power. I'll leave it to the XT experts for specifics on which exhaust etc. Good luck, and be careful ------------------ Grant Johnson One world, Two wheels. www.HorizonsUnlimited.com

thanks grant, but i never ride off road,im building a supermotard and im getting rid of all the weight i can.i want some decent filters to go with a stage1 head and exhaust, enlarged bore and custom piston.55hp is my target,i rode one with a stage 3 kit but it was unrideable, near 60hp but it was either full on or off, no inbetween.the stage 1 with bored out motor should give some more torque low down.put together with a longer swingarm and lower gearing i should have a real slide fest!
