parts question
 

Hi this is a fantastic sight for XTs I used to ride one of the first 500s and boy could that kick I now have a 600e 03 spec but I don’t like the chrome wheels, makes it look cheap Question dose anyone know if parts off a 1990 600e tenere
Would fit my bike IE front wheel,forks,headstock exhaust –end can.
I know I would properly have to change the back wheel hub as mine is a disk
and the tenere is a drum

Wheels from a 1991-> xtz660 will fit and will be right size, 17" rear and 21" front. Tenere' is 18" rear. Exhaust in all XT are similar, but you will have to change some attaching points.

Fit the Tenere rear wheels.....
 

Bison, if you fit the 18" Tenere rear wheel, then you will have a MUCH wider Tyre choice..... otherwise you are stuck on 17" rubber...Oh that and I find 18" Rubber just that little easier to fit too......:thumbup1:

I agree with you Martyn, 18" has a wider choice, on offroad tyres specially, but I don't know how easy is change wheel size on documents. Here in Italy is pratically IMPOSSIBLE. Personally have a 18" on my XT, but it's a risk:(, and I'm probably going to put a XTZ rim shortly... when my rear tire is finished .

I haven´t had any problem with changing the wheel size on bikes that I have had.It´s usualy enough that you can show that the bike type has come with bouth 17" or 18" rims depending on the model/year.Since an XT and a Tenere are basicly the same I never had any complaint´s from the Mot guys or the police. But that is of course diffrent from country to country.

To change to 18" is absolutly worth doing if you want to travel with your bike,18" rubbers can be found in most places.

Here in Spain, we have the same problem, but what tends to happen is..... say you want to supermoto your XT with alloy wheels, then you KEEP the spoked rims safe for ITV time (MOT). do a swap, then change after ITV.
as long as its right at the ITV ( every 2 years for Bikes) then the Police don't seem to care.... may be a different story if you have an accident and want to claim on your insurance though :innocent:

Thanks boys for the advice the 18”wheel would be a good thing tire wise
As I was thinking of buying the bike for spares incase I do any damage while off-road (Bent forks bars ext)
