Paper cylinder base gasket

I had to replace the head gasket and had a bit of other work to do so I went ahead and ordered a complete gasket kit (Versah) but was a bit surprised to find the cylinder base gasket was paper, not metal like my current one. I have a 34L Tenere.
Is paper or metal the standard? Will it make a difference? Because it's thinner than the metal one won't it bring the cylinder and head that little bit lower and closer to the piston?

I just finished a top end overhaul and used genuine Yamaha gaskets. This way you know it is right... I have used paper type on other engines with success. Do you have the Large O-Ring to go around the bottom of the cylinder? Re-use old one if none in the gasket set.

Thanks that's good to know anyway, was just a bit surprised to see a paper gasket in the kit!

The metal one you found, are you sure it was a gasket and not a shim?? BMW's used metal shims to fix pinking problems on some late airheads.
