Pannier Rack system with tray.

The 2004 BMW R1150 GS Adventure came out standard with a great pannier rack system that incorporates a fold away tray that the pannier sits on.

In the event of having to strap the pannier back on due to an accident (assuming the tray itself does not snap off), the fact that the pannier sits on a tray is great as it is one less item fighting gravity.

Is anyone aware of a pannier system that does this that will fit a 2010 Tenere? I have been told that Kappa does one but have been unable to find anything to that effect.

Lastly, assuming there are no "tray" systems available that will work, any recommendations on the best 35 and 40 Litre alluminium pannier and rack for this particular bike? The Yamaha OEM pannier does not appeal for a variety of reasons.

All and any help would be appreciatted.

Regards
Rui

THe OE panniers are much tougher than they look and will withstand a few falls without issue. Of course the locks and mechanisms are another matter and there have been many returns and there is now a warrenty replacement lock for them.

Loading is an issue too, at less than 30l there's not much room in them, but for the commute they are very very good due to the narrow profile.

Anyway, these are the Touratech Zega Pro's that come in about £150 more than the Yamaha OE ones;

Despite the old Soft or Hard debate that rages on (with polar opposites trying to prove black is in fact a paler shade of white), I find these boxes very good indeed.

They are the same width as the bars so judging a gap is easy, and they are 38 litres.

The Pro's have the top loops mounted differently, so you can sit on the quite comfortably (over the old Zega's).

The racks take a little whie to fit as you have to dissassemble the rear tail area of the bike - but you would with any setup, except Metal Mule but you need well over £1k for thier offering, and the rack doesn't fix to a strong part of the bike.

Of course there are other available, the best resource for XT660Z Tenere stuff is over on xt660.com, you'll get every information on every option available for the Tenere, including some nice power mods for very little cash.
