oil leak

One month into Tenere ownership and the mist of oil appearing at the top end of the engine on the right hand side is worrying. I'll have to take the tank off for a closer look. Any well known problems to look for here? It loses about 250ml per 1000km, not a huge amount, but it's messy.

yamaha seem to drip oil a lot, since Ive had mine every gasket seems to leak but not bad and a few mechanics have told me to just leave em and top up with oil. well I'd not heard of this and know a few xt owners with perfect bikes but what was I to know.

sounds like the rocker cover gasket, easy to get and replace and best of all cheap!

First thing to look for is whether the deaeration hose from the engine carter is connected to the air box. The hose is on one side connected to the lower end, left side of engine between clutch lever and cilinder and at the other end slides over a connection on the air box.

Then, once I saw someone with a misted over helmet as his rev counter cable was leaking oil. So check the little thingy that the rev counter cable screws into at the engine end. Might be a gone seal and / or O-ring. Easy to replace and to get to.
