oil breather

hello and help all (please)

my 98 xt600e is losing lots of oil thru the breather (out of the airbox overflow).
whenever I ride at higher revs (=/- 4000 revs) for a period of time, I have a squirt of oil coming out - not the odd drop.

Things that have been done to try and rectify this are:
- new piston and ring set
- new oil pump fitted
- opened the crank to clean the oil sieve (wasnt really necessary)
- double, triple and quadriple checked the amount of oil in the bike.

There is no improvement. I am going thru air filters like crazy. I have also removed the airbox cover and with the motor running at high reves (in neutral), one can actually see the oil spraying into the airbox from the breather pipe.

The local official Yamaha mechanic, as well as an ex-yammie mechanic are stumped.
Any new suggestions?

Thanks,
Ernie

It could be that you are getting pressure building in the crankcase,
the bottom end breathers need to be checked, a worn bore may give " blowby" and cause this, I don't know anything about yammies, but on some machines you could remove the dipstick/filler and check for venting whist on idle.
landrover 90's have this problem on a huge scale!

Hi Capie, Tough one, this. My first thought would be to do a compression test on your bores, as it appears that you are pressurising your crankcase. If the rings are worn this would be allowing gases through to the crankcase, from the combustion chamber, which in turn will cause your oil to be misting up and looking for a way out i.e. through the breather to the airbox. Secondly, the same thing will be happening if your cylinder bores are, themselves, worn.

Hi guys, question! how many different front brake calipers have been used on the xt/xtz/ tenere range. Trying to find the correct one for my forks ( hybrid bike), bought from a breaker, they had them listedas being from a 650 tenere! I suspect that they are from an xtz 660. I have the caliper from a 34L model which does not fit.
Thanks for any help.
