Newb Questions

Hi all,

I've got a US model 1990 XT600 and I'd like to pick up a spare set of wheels to put some street tires on. Does anyone know if there is anything else out there that shares our wheels, or is close enough? If not, anybody that sells aftermarket wheels?

Second question - I think the suspension may be a little old and worn, plus, I weigh a bit more than the avg rider ~250lbs. Is there anyone, especially on this side of the pond, that makes uprated suspension for these bikes?

Is it possible to get a center stand for these bikes? I'd really like to have one for maintenence and trailside repairs.

How's the electrical systems on these bikes? I've got a set of heated grips I'm about to put on, but was curious as to the output of the stock alternator and if the bike can handle the extra strain.

Thanks,

I've looked over there and I'm not really seeing anything. Got any threads in particular in mind? Thanks,

Heated grips

Hi Josh,

My XT600E and Tenere both have heated handlebar grips fitted and have caused no problems with the bikes electrical systems. I don't do short trips with lots of stop / starts though.

The grips that I fitted have two settings, 'Start' which heats them up quickly ans 'Run' which keeps them warm once they have heated up. Start uses a lot more current so I switch to Run fairly quickly to give the electrical system an easier time, but I don't know if this is really necessary.

If you only do short trips and you do find that the battery does run down, fitting an LED back light might just make the difference.

If you are riding this time of year I certainly recommend fitting them

Mark
