New bike XTZ660 1993

Hi guys,

I'm a total newbie as you might say. I've recently got carried away and bought an XTZ660 off ebay for a relatively good price. Its been used mostly for greenlaning but is in fair nick. Its got a Lazer Pro exhaust too which is nice!

Anyway, I'm not a seasoned biker, its my first big one. In 2008 and I rode a Honda C90 with two mates (also on C90's) from Oxford to Greece which was absolutely excellent fun! But haven't had or ever maintained a bike of this size.

I want to get to know it just a little before riding it to Spain in September to see my mum. So I'm gonna change the oil filter, oil, air filter just to be safe in the knowledge its all fresh. Is there anything else that people would really recommend I check out? I'm not much of mechanic, but will be able to check certain things out. The engine itself seems tickety boo, purrs fairly normally and idles real nice, no nasty knocks. Whats the best oil to use?

Oh, I almost forgot, there is a bit of a problem. Its cosmetic really, but at some point its been dropped and the clocks are squiffy, they are stuck in that position and I've no idea how I would reset them, the whole unit with clocks/lights is slightly to the left. Any ideas?

One last thing, around the front dashboardy black bit there are a lot of vibrations at about 3,500 revs as they are a little loose from when its been dropped I imagine. A guy in a garage suggested silicone sealant around them to seal it up, good idea? Any ideas on how I should go about doing it?

Sorry lots of questions!!!!
