My new (to me) XT600E

Sorry it's a repost, I might get better response here though...

I just bought a really nice 1990 XT600E, which is a bit of a rarity here in the states, even moreso in Kansas, and even more still with less than 5000 miles like the one I got. I was just wondering about a few things:

Does anyone have any information on wiring in heated grips? I need a tank bag too, and I was wondering if there were any good bike-specific options. If there's any good general mod advice, too, it would be greatly appreciated, as this bike is completely stock. Also, what years of tanks will fit the 1990? I'm considering getting an Acerbis or something of that nature.

I think you can still get an Acerbis 20L tank, not sure in USA but at least in Europe and some parts of Asia. Cheers.

Tank (top) bags will be difficult on an XT I think, the tanks shape does not lend itself and filling with petrol will be a pain. No experience my self but others posting here have suggested using ATV tank saddle bags. Looks like the way to go, checkout:

The Acerbis worldwide site has a listing for a tank fitting an XT600..

It looks like this on the bike TANK

Micah,

Since you're in Kansas, try finding a Tractor Supply store. I picked up a set of ATV panniers from them for about $35 and they seem to work nice. I've also got a 1990 XT600E.

I've got some pictures in a thread on Adventure Rider:

I picked up some Dual-Star heated grips. I wired direct to the battery with a relay wired off a front turn signal and they seem to work well so far. As for the Acerbis tank, I lucked out and found one on eBay from someone in FL, so I have no idea about getting one from Europe.
