Kept the stock rear shock.

made a bracket with a triangle shape which moved the top mount of the rear shock 2.5cm back and 1cm lower.

You can get a special made rear shock for your needs while keeping it mounted in the same position!

they can costumise the rear shock to your likings...
If I had the money for it I'd get one for sure!

I was able to make the triangle shaped mount because I had this welded:


As for the chain damaging anything?
Check my 2nd picture on the top of this page.
That picture was taken with the bike on it's stand and with the chain very loose.

in the upright position with the chain in the proper tension you won't have anymore problems with chain damage as you already had before unless you put smaller front and back sprockets.

Hey Vando, did you need to modify the front fender to avoid it hitting the devil headers?

Regarding mud flaps you can get retro ones for the front and rear, you could use one for behind the shock.

just had a look at that link to the shock.it all sounds good .anybody know of any in longterm use ? how are they holding up ? a wilbers could also custom a shock for about the same money.which is best ? it has to be tough

I got no clue how they hold up but as for the construction they seem very solid!

TFX was previously called Tecnoflex...


So...tomorrow I'll be soldering the Medium headlight cable for my trailtech indicator dashboard on to the headlight wiring and be lengthening the cables to and from the TCI..

Hope everything goes as planned!

Just a few more days and hopefully the bike is ready!

For anyone interested, I've found both front and rear WAVED disc brake discs / rotors very less than 110USD delivered!

Updates
So, I've been doing some little but very important things on the bike these last 10days..

Mostly, I've been working on all the electrics which I absolutely needs to be perfectly done, that's why I've taken all this time as most of the new wiring cables had to be shipped from another island (yeah I know not fun to wait that much 3-4 days between each shipment!) and on weekends, after midday saturdays every car shops that sell those things are closed!

What I've done is:
  • I've relocated all the electrics on to the airbox I made in fiberglass.
  • made all the necessary changes on to the Trailtech Indicator dashboard wiring so it now fits using the XT's stock indicator lights connector.
  • repaired the broken cables.
  • modified the wiring harness behind the headlight cover so I could fit everything nice and clean!
  • Made and fitted the new battery cables (had to wait 4 days to get 95cm + 91cm of 16sq mm battery cable and another 2 days for the right terminals as they ordered the WRONG ones! m.f rs...
  • Fitted the new banjo type Oil pressure brake light switch which arrived today.
So, tomorrow I'm gonna get ONE female bullet connector... Not cool!
Yeah, couldn't finish everything today cause I was missing ONE connector to replace the broken front right turn signal cable and connector...

That's what I'll be doing tomorrow...plus, I'll clean the raptor carbs very nicely and fit the jet kit.. wish me luck on that!


Right now, The bike only needs a battery, engine oil and tune the carbs....
Hope to be riding this weekend!

Oh, and the exhaust midpipe!
Forgot about that one...

Should I use some heatproof liquid gasket between the muffler and downpipes or something else?

You can get some special exhaust paste, made to make sure theres no leak around the joint of sections. Use that, it the exhaust draw in just a little air at a joint, you'll get an exhasut sounding like a handgrenade went of, from time to time.

It hardens as it warms up, making a tight seal. You can still disassembly the parts, just need to clean of the hardened paste, and apply some new.

Doesnt cost much, and any halfdesent carshop should have some.

it looks like you bike is coming along nice. im still waiting to get my frame back from the powder coaters. could you please tell me were you found them wavey discs ? any chance of a photo ? what do you think of the quality ? also i was just looking at your wiring. is that been rewired with heavyer guage cable ? thanks david

Hey there!
just came here for a peak before heading off to bed...

The ebay seller doesn't know if the disc he is selling fits the year bike model that I asked him so I'm not sure it'll fit perfectly on the XT..

one seller that has an online webpage is S3performance.
Their discs seem to be pretty good too...

I'll post you some links tomorrow here!

yer, the wiring... couldn't get some decent enough wires on this freaking island...

I think the problem I'm having with the bike not starting is comming from having put these heavier wires instead of the 2mm square that it should be...

That and the fact I still haven't been able to put the floats of the raptor carbs at the right level (it's overflowing gas out of the overflow ..

it's a pain to adjust this.. put carb in, measure the fuel height using a clear tube fitted on to the overflow(under the carbs)...too high---take them out and adjust a bit, put them back on, recheck the height, still too high, take them off, adjust again....

i've done it about 10 times now and I'm getting bored! couldn't even touch the bike today, that's how bored I got yesteday

YUPYYYYYYYYYYYY just managed to finally set the carb float heights where it doesn't overflow out of the carbs!

Mothere fraking sobs! lol

Well, I think I've figured out why I got no spark...
The coil cable where it attaches to the sparkplug cap boot is in need of a repair or even a new coil...

Still, I'm gonna need to recheck all the back part of the wiring connections to see if everything is in order!

Hopefully I'll be able to have the coil cable checked by my mechanic later this afternoon....

Hi Jens!

Yeah, I guess they don't but..they do make the whole diameter of all the wires going to the back of the bike about 50% larger...

Plus, I do have some wiring fitted in the wrong places.. (don't ask me how lol)
One of the cables, the black one, that goes from the e-start button to the starter solenoid is going not to the starter solenoid but to the 4cable relay instead

I'll be fixing that tomorrow and hopefully the bike will come to life again!

Correction...

Every connection was correctly made!
but one of the cables that I've increased was loose.. I must've pulled the cable and the connectors got separated...


Updates..

The bike is now running but still have to tune the carbs as I don't know if it's rich or lean.

but! might I add that... the WR450 exhaust sounds realllllly nice and is not much louder than stock!!

oh, and the stebel horn god damn........it is LOUD! lol
I've only tried the high tone one.. I got the low tone in its box in my bedroom which I'll try later tonight.


I need to get a new battery!
