Model ID?

My XT600E has engine and frame numbers beginning with 3TB. The cylinder is marked 3AJ00 and the cylinder head has 2KF stamped on it. Are these different numbers for the different parts, or have a got a bitsa? (The bike doesn't seem to have been messed around in any major way.)

Until I found this forum, I thought an XT600E was an XT600E, but now I know better. What are the differences between the various model designations?

Shameless bump after a month! Anyone an idea on the model no. for my bike?

Engine/frame numbers begin 3TB
Cylinder marked 3AJ
Cylinder head 2KF

Is it a 3TB or a bitsa? 1995 bike (pre-tacho model).

Cheers

Hej,

should be the original set-up for a 3TB engine.

Yamaha used always the latest stage of development.
Head is latest stage since 2KF-model (i.e. 2nd screw for timing chain tunnel)
Cylinder is latest stage since 3AJ-model (i.e. deeper threads for fastening screws).

Same story inside the engine (i.e. oil pump - latest stage 1VJ)

Everything marked 5Y1 has its roots from good old XT550 .

Hope that helps

It does. Many thanks for the information. Nice to know all the model codes are because Yamaha used the latest bits, rather than because a previous owner used whatever he had lyong around :)

Cheers bubbla!
