Mk 1 and Mk 2 3AJs

Hi
I belive there is a mk1 and mk2 3AJs. I think the engine casings are grey on the MK 2 and earlier models had black casings. Is this correct and what other differences are there ?
Thanks

The early ones were 3AJs the later id numbers (Frame + engine numbers) were actually 3DS or 3DE ( though everyone calls them 3AJ). Engine colour went from black to grey then back to black and then varied. Apart from that, the bikes were mechanically the same.

Hmmm

As far as I know the 3DS is the Swiss version of the 3AJ, sold at the same time as the 3AJ. The 3DS can be recognised by the single square headlight.
As far as I know, difference between 3AJ mark I and II is the larger oil cooler and gearbox mods for the mark II.

Hi Bolla,

This old post has information on the differences between the Series 1 and Series 2 3AJ.

I have an '88 Series 1, imported from Italy, and I suspect only the Series 2 machines were sold in the UK (from '89).

Fyi, this link has a copy of the original UK 3AJ sales brochure.

Hope this helps?
