1985 Yamaha xt600 motor rebuild

When installing the cylinder head cover the manual does not show a gasket for that area. Should I use gasket sealer? Will this leak without any kind of sealer or gasket?

I believe the stuff you need is called Yamabond or something similar.
as with all these things, make sure surfaces are surgically clean with no pits or scratches and USE SPARINGLY allowing to dry to a 'tacky' feel before assembly.

PLEASE don't use that ghastly Orange or Blue instant gasket crap.

Yamabond is good, Clymer prescribes back, non-hardening fluid gasket. Wurtz makes good stuff, or Loctite.
Apply, then immediately assemble!
After assembly, let harden/dry at least 24 hours at 15 degree Celsius (or longer when colder), otherwise you'll have to repeat wiithin half a year.

Ah, I stand corrected... Cheers Dude, wondered why I had to do mine again a little while later? and here was me blaming the yamabond! Ya live and learn...... Thats what the forum is for.
