Looking for working speedometer

My 1990 XT600a's speedo is not working over 40kph. Anybody got a used one or know of another that will fit. I guess I can go to a bicycle digital if all else fails, but I 'd rather just have the stock one working.

Thanx,

Neil Taylor

Speedo problems

If it works fine at lower speeds and then won't go past 40 it might just need cleaning. I know they are not made to come apart but by carful cutting you can get it apart and clean out the magnetic drive and glue it all back together. Or why not a GPS so it will be ready for the big trip.

Re speedo

I'll try taking it apart. Thanx!

Bicycle computer

If the clean doesn't fix the problem, try a bicycle computer.
Cheap and accurate. I put one on every bike I get. It is amazing to seeing how inaccurate OEM speedo's are.

Speedo and Tac from an 86' XT600 on Ebay.com
Type in XT600 and should come up. Some guy in Eastern US is parting out an 86' with just under 9,000 miles.

Stock is always best. You should see my TT250.

re Ebay

I don't know why but I can't seem to get registered on Ebay. I see the speedo tach unit for sale. I wonder if I could use the tach as well? My XT only has the speedo but it looks the same. I'll try to register again.

Thanx

I fitted a Tral Tech Endurance a few years ago.
They didn't have a specific application for my bike but they recommended fitting up the xr Honda kit. A bit of simple backyard engineering and it works great.
I think they have a much more feature laden product line now.
Trail Tech endurance was about 60usd, stock Yahama something stupid like 350cdn

Good Luck,
Pawlie
