What engine do I have - HELP!!

I've got a 1986 XT600, Black n Red frame and gold wheels, its a kickstart and has front and rear discs.

The threads on my barrel were knackered, and after getting all helicoiled, they lasted a weeks holiday before they eventually ripped themselves out. Probably a bad engineering job but you don't know that when you pay for it. Oh well.

I bought another barrel (a 3AJ as I heard it fits my 2KF head) but they do not line up. The studs in the head don't match the holes in the barrel.

I dont know what the original barrel code was as I don't have it anymore, dunno but its gone.

So does anyone know what barrel will fit a 2KF head or what head I should get for the 3AJ barrel I have (if that would work).

I have read people have a 3AJ with a 2KF head so am bit confused.

Anyone got a barrel or a head I could buy so I can get this back on the road!

Any help appreciated.

Cheers

I got a 1990 XT600E 3UY (that I bought in the USA and which I think is the same as the 3TB) and on the barrel below the carbs on the left it has 2KF stamped on...

good luck there mate...

Thanks Martynbiker

So finally managed to find out what is going on.

I have a 1987 XT600 2KF

The head is a 2KF and the Barrel is a 3AJ.

According to the parts list (thanks again Martyn) they should fit.

for some reason the diameter between the 2 head studs on the head and corresponding holes on the barrel are different. I suspect my head is not really a 2KF but a 1VJ (even though it says 2KF on it).

The parts list states that the 2KF head should be 145mm distance, same as the 3AJ barrel. My head is 133mm distance between the studs so therefore must be a 1VJ (as stated in the manual).

Very confusing!!

So anyone got a head for this thing ?
