laser pipe xtz660

sorry,but this is another question about exhaust.
ive just purchased a laser produro race pipe with very minimal baffeling. i have been running the stock pipe on my 95 xtz660 and was wondering if i should do anything to the bike to make up for the increased flow of gasses...should i fiddle with the carb or not.

I have an after market variety on mine for the last 5000 miles and have not tweaked anything on the carbs - no running problems and no noticable change in ecomnony....

Hi futronix,
I have mounted Arrow PDR exhaust pipe on my XTZ 660 long time ago. No changes in economy with it ( always around 5 l/100 km , calm riding ), but engine runs more freely between 3-5.000 rpm. Backfiring is minimal under 3.000 rpm, you can adjust it with air/fuel mixture screw by turninig it a quarter of circle out, to make the mixture a bit richer on low rpms. That is all I did on carbs. Also, on Arrow is possible to adjust noise level by changing perforated plate on inlet of pipe with different perforation than stock, so you can minimize noice level to acceptable value. No changes on top speed with Arrow than with stock pipe.

Hi Phil,

I put a Motad race can on my 660 and at the same time bought a Dynojet Kit in case it wouldn't run right with the can. However it went ok - no problems - so I didn't bother fitting the jet kit and made no alterations.

About 2 years later I decided I might as well fit the kit since I had bought it anyway. It was dead easy to fit and the change was quite noticeable.

Not a change that you could say suddenly there was a whole lot more power there, instead it felt that the bike was running just that bit "sweeter" if you know what I mean. Right through the rev range.

I reckon you could happily leave your set up as it is or fit a dynojet kit for optimun running if you wish. I don't think you will notice any power increase, its too small.

Fuel economy is usually 11 miles to the litre.

I was thinking how to describe running sweeter, - I guess it took the lumpyness out of the engine at low rpm and made it run much smoother.

Also I use a K&N filter.
