Kickstart Conversion

Hi all, does anyone know if a kickstart shaft seal for a 99-03 xt600E will fit in the crankcase of my 3aj ? Having just bid for(and won) a kickstart mechanism from a 2kf i am going to convert to kicking her into life! also i read somewhere a kickstart from an xs750 fits? anyone got a spare kicker lying around? cheers T

Not sure if I understood your question, frankly, i'm sure i did NOT understand it :-)

You can use 2kf mechanism on 1VJ, no problems. What are you missing? XT600E 99-03 has no kick, and therefore no kickstart shaft seal..

I have a 1990 3aj (electric start only)& i am adding a kickstart to it, what i would like to know is if a kickstart oil seal from a 1999-03 xt600E will fit the rubber blank that is in a 3aj crankcase? I have bought a kickstart mechanism from a 2kf xt on ebay and all i need now is a kickstart lever.

XT kickstart

Hej,

your 2KF Kickstart will fit in the 3AJ. The seal you need to fit into your clutch cover you can use from any XT 600 model with kickstart - as the axles all have the same diameter. Same for the upper decompression.

Don't forget to mount the bracket to stopp the kicker.

I also heard a XS 750 kicker will do - but never seen one on a XT.

Good luck!

It's an error in wemoto website I suppose.

anyway you can take this same picture, and I believe also same object.

Yamaha XT 600 87-89 Kickstart Oil Seal

If you r curious about this, ask them if they r the same part.
BTW, the last XT600 engine version has the clutch on right side, and right carter cannot be replaced with previous version, and has no hole. As a consequence, add a kick on a 2000-> model is NOT possible, and has no sense to write "kickshaft seal for XT600E 99-03"

Thanks for your replies, what is the bracket to stop the kicker & where is it mounted? Should it be part of the mechanism or is it mounted outside the engine? In my clymer it mentions a lockwasher, guide plate & stopper plate, is this the bracket? I take it these parts won,t come with my kickstart shaft. Does the clutch need to be removed to install the shaft? thanks again: T

Hej,

lockwasher, guide plate & stopper plate - thats exactly what I meant - sorry but my english is far away from being perfect.
The parts are mounted inside, just near the kickstart-axle. The crankcase cover is already prepared to fix the parts (threads). But you will also need a sprocket between the kickstarter and the sprocket on the backside of the clutch (check attachm. in earlier posting). It will fit on the gearbox axle - no worries - your engine is prepared for that. You'll need to take the clutch off - and a new lockwasher later to fix it again.
If you follow any repair manual the job is not too difficult - but I would recommend to read first and than care about parts and tools (holder for the clutch to remove the nut - it works also to place a piece of an old sprocket between clutch and primary drive to lock it).

Good luck again!

Hi,

I believe the kickstart oil seal is Yamaha part number 93102-20108-00, if that helps?

Geoff
