Just a few horses more.

Hi chaps, i was wondering if anyone has managed to extract a few more horses out of the XT 600 E motor without killing the motor, and if so what can be done without spending a bundle of cash.
Its not about going fast, 90 is fast enough without a fairing but it would be nice to get away a bit quicker, i have changed the exhaust for an Arrow and that sounds realy nice now and that in turn gives you the impression of going fast i suppose ?.
Anyone got any hints or tips ?.
Cheers all.

Yes ....

Open up the air inlet in the air filter - a saw or drill does the trick. Be sure to only make holes on the dirty side. Normally no carb adjustment required.

Correct me if i am wrong, but i was under the impression that the the air inthe air box realy needs to be as still as possable as too much turbulance would produce an uneven mixture for the motor to burn :confused1:.
Will look into that and let you all know what i find out, i might have to take a trip down to Stan ''The man'' stevens in kent and pick his brains on the issue.
I havnt got a bundle of cash to spend, and i know the XT is no KTM Duke but a few horses more wouldnt go a miss.
Cheers all.

Well

You do need some turbulence, to get the petrol mixed as homogeneous as possible with the air. Opening up the air intake will not cause more or less turbulence, but will increase pressure in the intake which makes for more mass of air in the clinder and thus more hp´s. This, in combination with the overrich standard Yamaha carburettor settings.

Try it on a wet day (wet is not dusty) for a short run, just leave out the air filter itself and any cover there might be. You´ll be amazed.
