IVJ tenere ignition fail

I have a 1989 IVJ tenere 600, & riding along at a hasty pace yesterday the engine just died on me. On checking, there appeared to be an occasional / weak / no spark at the plug. I have tried replacing the coil with another ( suspect) xt coil, but neither of them seem to want to produce a spark now.
i have checked for a pulse at the orange wire to the coil when kicking over, and the reading fluctuates from 0.25 at static to zero. when the ign switch is off this does'nt happen. when the stop switch is off it fluctuates when kicked over. is this correct ?

The stop switch is connected to a black ( earth ) & a blue and white wire that goes to the starter relay <?> which then goes to the cdi unit. Am i correct in saying that the switch needs to earth out the blue and white wire ( to the black ) in order for the engine to run ?

I have checked the two coils using a multimeter, and one of them reads 4.69 ohms the other reads 4.75 are these in tolerance / functional ?

I have looked everywhere for a wiring diagram in english for the IVJ and been unsuccessful

I understand that the IVJ doesn't need a battery to start, so no requirement for a test of 12v at the coil ( ? )
<there was no 12v on the orange wire>
Can anyone suggest any other specific checks I can run with a multimeter before i start swapping out the cdi etc.:confused1:

IVJ xt tenere dead stator / source coil ?

To update.
I left the xt standing for a few weeks and came back to it with the hope of fixing the no spark situation, to find a weakish but regular spark. I reassembled and she started up & ran fine. However 20 miles down the road, xt cut out suddenly with no further firing to be had, & test reveiled no spark once again. ( well occasionally a little one )
Back home I checked the various values of the ignition components, and compared them to those in my newly obtained 3AJ workshop manual, which I am assuming will suit the IVJ ign system also.
Both pick up coils were in tolerance. book says 90 - 130 ohm. mine came in at 113.3.
Charging coil resistance is supposed to be measured across white /yellow to white yellow wires and the reading should be 0.2 - 0.6 ohm according to the manual. My IVJ has three white wires and a blue one ( neutral indicator). the white ones read 0.12 ohm.
The source coil resistance is supposed to be 160 - 240ohm on the brown to red wires.
Mine reads open circuit.

I'm assuming from the above that what I need is a replacement (or repair to) the stator assembly. If anyone has any leads on obtaining such an item for the ivj xt please let me know.

There is a stator for an earlier model on the wemoto site, but i don't know if it is suitable, from the image there appears to be just three wires coming from it , with no source coil wires visible.

stators

The one on the wemoto site isdefintely noot the one you need. The picture is of a stator that is only generator, and has nothing to do with ignition. In addition, the '86 stator is as far as I know not suitable for the 1VJ - the stator was slightly changed between 86 and 87.

Kedo.de has stators as well.

You need this one Generator Alternator Yamaha
Took a couple of emails to get the right part, but it was the right one.Unfortunately I never got to use it as the motor had a bent crank and was breaking crankcases.

The G45 it is. thanks for the tip.

Hi................any luck with the new stator, has it arrived yet?........this could be my problem. next time I can get to the bike I will check the resistance figures....

Stator is on back order with the suppliers ( electrex )
I'll post with my findings once it arrives

Roger that.................

Just to update on the situation.
I spent ages waiting and eventually contacted electrex-world direct.
to cut a story short, imo their idea of service is appalling, turned out they wouldn't even be making any g45 stators for another month or so. Dave lambeth put me on to a guy who rewinds stators. turned out my source windings were indeed fried but the lighting circuits were ok. a fast turn around, good price, and my 1VJ is now sparking happily once again
