IVJ Oil capacity please?

Hello all,

Long time no post, but the Tenere is coming out of the shed so I need to pick brains!
I'm going to do an oil and filter change, can anybody tell me how much oil i'll need to get? Also will I get away with using normal 10w40 car engine oil? The motor is fairly tired and due for a 3AJ transplant anyway so i'm not too concerned about a bit more wear.

Thanks in advance.

10w40 is what I usually put in mine... semi-synthetic!

1vj oil

hello i have been told that if you put car engine oil in your engine it is designed to reduce friction of all kinds because cars have a dry clutch but in your engine it has a wet clutch and you need a specific oil designed for motorcycle engines i use a 10/40 castrol oil which i get from halfords and it actually says ideal for wet clutches on the bottle if anyone has used normal car oil and it worked then great but i think it is a bit risky.

1.9l Periodic oil change.
2.0l With oil filter replacement.
2.4l Total amount. <---- obviously the oil lines and cooler will retain some oil at a normal change.

Thanks for the replies, oil change tomorrow, think i'll stick with proper bike engine oil. Maybe fit the produro system too? (please see new thread if you are familiar with the produro. MOT on saturday so fingers crossed!

Bike passed MOT with flying colours this morning. Perfect weekend for the lanes!:thumbup1: I used silkolene semi synthetic oil, £6.50 per litre, better than £11 for castrol!
