in rome and in trouble.

ok so ive got a problem.my 95 xtz660, 51000kms ,is using allot of oil.ive just ridden this bike from london to rome with my girlfriend and a good amount of luggage. we are headed to india. the bike has been using more and more oil everyday and yesturday it used 400mls in 125kms...
its not blowing any blue smoke on start up and still has plenty of power and is getting great fuel economy...when i was riding yesturday i could smell burning oil.today when i rode to rome it used hardly any oil....so i cant make out why it uses allot of oil sometimes and not others..????
i fitted a laser produro race pipe to my bike when i was in london, maybe ive got a problem with my valve seals?...
any info or advice would be great or a mechanic address in rome much better.
thank you people...
do you think it will harm the bike if i keep maintaining the oil levels and nurse it until i get somewhere i can get the engine looked at...
any advice appreciated...phil.

Most probably one or more inlet valve stem seals are causing the problem. The oil is fully combusted so no blue smoke. When you ride calmly you have a lot of vacuum in the inlet so it will suck a lot of oil. When you ride full throttle [hardly any vacuum] consumption will be less.

Futronix,
as FredXTZ said, could be inlet valve seals, but also could be that cylinder bacame an oval shape, and in that case you need oversize it! I had the same shymptoms and did oversize before aprox. 6000 km. No oil consumption mentioned so far. If in future find out that maybe you realy need an oversize, mail me, I will give you exact infos about tolerances. If go through Croatia, you are more than welcome.
