ignition key

So can,t find the ignition key after moving out from my ex so any one the best thing to do? ...destroy ignition or can the barrel be removed so I can take it to a locksmith...try my key from a 2002 xt 600 but no luck....might end up shorting it out and fitting just a switch....

buy a new one from ebay ;)

You can always bypass the ignition key and stash a switch somewhere hidden..

Cheers Bacardi,I think its bypass with switch at the moment....

Removal of keyway plug on Yamaha MC

Either take the ignition off the M/C and take it to a Locksmith, he can cut a key quite easily or try removing the plug from the ignition yourself, take a flat hooked tool that fits in the keyway and feel down to the bottom of the lock, the last wafer retains the plug into the lock housing, depress the wafer and lift the whole cylinder out, a locksmith can now cut the key for about half the cost of delivering the entire ignition. (this option only works on older Yamaha's not sure what year they changed this)

Is the steering lock on ???

If not, just take the top yoke off, drill out the bolts and remove the whole ignition switch. It should only be a single plug.

I've changed loads of dodgy switches on project bikes. It's very easy if you've got a vice/drill.

You can buy the complete units from Ebay/wemoto etc.

Take a note of your frame number and try your mainline dealer, he may (should) be able to supply new key for your lock.
