I wish I had Electric Start

Hello all, this is my first post.

As you might know they don't make the Xt600 in the states anymore. I was looking around and the still offer them over seas with electric start. On microfisch the bolt pattern on the side cover looks to be the same through all the years except they added some to the newer cover to make a mount for the starter. Can I order the side cover, starter, gear and start button from across the pond and make it work on my 86' ? I would like to do this to mine because it is in showroom condition and would be a shame to let it go just to get one with electric start. But my right knee just wont take it any more( need a knee replacement). If anyone knows of a blown motor someone is getting rid of that I could buy and swap the parts off of I would appreciate it.

Thanks fella's, looks like a great group of riders on this site.

Unfortunately

not. In the e-start versions there is also some holes in the crankcase where the pinion shafts go. Crankshaft is also longer.
Best option is to buy an used e-start engine and replace yours entirely. Not sure though that it fits. Do not forget you'll need a larger battery, wiring etc etc. Pretty major operation...

I was prepared for the obvious work but I was afraid their was going to be problem with the crankcase. Thanks for the reply, I guess I'll be on a big search for a newer motor. Also a search on how to make this bike start a little easier.

Why do you want an Electric start ??

If your XT takes more than 2 kicks to start then something is wrong.
