High Compression Problems
I'm in the middle of a rebuild (among other things
I tried posting on ADV Rider and just got a slew of redundant posts with no real experience backing, I suppose they were all just taking a break from installing their RAM mounted Garmin Zumo on their R12GS, and a 12v outlet in their Jesse Luggage to keep their coffee warm. Anyway, my question is how does the XT handle a 11.5:1 compression Wiseco piston? How much a power gain can I expect? Are there any problems with the extra heat? Timing issues? Starter trouble? Head gasket problems? Crank? Pin? Rings melting themselves to the piston? I use the bike for everything from long distance (couple thousand miles) touring to tight singletrack trail riding to laying through twisties like a supermoto wannabe in North Carolina, and sometimes all of the above. |

I dont know alot about them, But. I do know I`ve got one in my 1990 xt. Its been there for the last 20 thousand miles or so.
No problems at all. Cant help on the power gain tho, Didint ride the bike before the piston went in. HTH Pete |

Bumping up this thread because it's some pretty good question that some of us might've already asked ourselves.... I sure have!

I was actually contemplating getting one of those when I thought my engine got f-ed up...
Instead it was just broken camshaft chain and both exhaust valves bent... saved me quite some €€€ haha |
