Help with Regulator Applications

I have a 1984 XT600 and I am pretty sure the regulator has quit. I am seeing XT 600 regulators being sold as an aftermarket item on ebay. It shows it to fit the 92-?. My bike has leads coming right out of the regulator and the aftermarket version does not. Can I make my own connectors? Has anybody tried this? I can only find the OEM and it is $180 US.

Thanks in advance.

Pretty much a reg is a reg. There are three or four wire types, and so long as you get one with the same number as the old you'll be fine.

You need to mount them where they can cool efficiently, as its heat which buggers them. Some even fit PC fans to them on bikes like VFR's.

I guess I am asking if the aftermarket regulator has the same number of wiring connections as my old one. The picture of the aftermarket one has blade terminals sticking out of the regulator. I just cant tell how many blades there are.

your cable should have two white in one connector, and brown\red on the other.

Membership - help keep us going!

Horizons Unlimited is not a big multi-national company, just two people who love motorcycle travel and have grown what started as a hobby in 1997 into a full time job (usually 8-10 hours per day and 7 days a week) and a labour of love. To keep it going and a roof over our heads, we run events all over the world with the help of volunteers; we sell inspirational and informative DVDs; we have a few selected advertisers; and we make a small amount from memberships.
