HELP: engine problem

Hello from gorno-altaysk.

I'm riding an xt600e, and a couple of days ago it let go of all it's oil. I assumed this was from the cylinder head. Since then I made my way back to biisk and had the problem sorted.

Drove away and the bike didn't seem to be as powerful as before..... Anyway took a few days to drive along the m52 making my way to tashanta border in Mongolia.

And 100 miles from where I am now it seems the same happened but not so much oil. I have since cleaned the engine and drove the 100 miles to where I am now with no apparent leak.

I had to stick between 3500-4000 revs to get the bike here. Above or below this the bike wasn't putting any power down at all.
Even between these revs It was weak, but it felt the best here.

I'm not sure if this is anywhere clear enough for anyone to help....... But any help/suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It is possible that compression is leaking by a broken piston ring and pressurizing the crankcase which blows the oil out of a seal. Where exactly is the oil coming out of? up by the head? Could also be a blown head gasket. Do you feel any hot air blowing out around the head if you put your head around it?

The broken piston ring sounds like a probable answer and the oil seems to be coming from the head. But I plan to clean the engine thoroughly tomorrow and take the bike for a spin and see if I can find a leak.

I don't think it is the head gasket as there is no oil leaking from there but I will check this tomorrow morning as well.

After a drive this morning it seems to be going ok now. The first drive was the same as the day before, then I drove again and it seemed to pull in all gears very well. I then changed the air filter. Seems ok.

No hot air coming from the head gasket and seems there is no leak anymore.... Maybe the oil was overfilled and it came from the oil filler cap.

I'm making my way to tashanta today.

Sorry to hear of your accident and injury, and that you had to sell the bike, and after all the preparation you put into it.

Hope you get home safely and that you mend quickly.

Thanks to all the well wishers, will be off my feet until gone Christmas.

Just looking for another adventure bike (hopefully an xt).

The intention being to take the bike apart and learning it inside out, so I have more of a clue of what to do if I have problems again.

I have already done a lawn mower engine.... Although very basic has improved my understanding of engines.

A single motorbike will be a good progression from this.

Although short of money I'm looking out for an xt, would appreciate being alerted if anyone sees any cheap xt's...

Either an xt or a drz ....
