Can anyone tell me how many Amps the XT600E headlight acesses?

My brother bought a HID 4300k kit to fit on the 2002 DT125R but he is also having ideas of selling the bike so.. I might keep it if he won't sell it the kit aswell...
The kit he bought needs 4.0 amps to work.....

Should be fine. The XT system can handle that no prob. Standard 55/60 watt headlight draws about 4 or 5 amps. Your XT is fused for that, should be fine.
Just don't cross any wires ... and watch your polarity when doing the switch.
Disconnect battery for the job. Have spare fuses on hand in case you screw up.

55W divided by 12v = 4,583A (+ loss in heat, wires, connections ect)

HID is usually wat less than that, but requires some to get it burning, afterthat it doen't use much.

The xt should be wery capable of that.

The typical HID kit uses a 35W system, although you can purchase a 55W as well, but for small headlight housings, its wiser to keep the 35 due to heat generated.

if you want, go to DDMtuning.com and you can purchase a kit of your choice for roughly $25 USD plus shipping. I'm doing this when I get plates on my bike.

I do have one question...
Why is there soo much discrepancy out there on the bulbs their selves?

some offer 4000k others 4100k others 4300k and others 4500k and so on...

And, can a lamp from different make fit on anyother HID kit?

you were probably not looking at the motorcycle section, the H4 for motorcycles is around $40USD, the CAR sets are more.

and to my knowledge, no you cant adapt bulbs from one brand to another in HID kits.

the discrepancy really is simple to explain a 3500k kit offers a crappy yellowish light like what you have now, 12000k is blue or purpleish, I forget which, for the best USABLE light, a 4300-4500k kit is what you want, as that is a clean white light, and exceptionally bright.

They offer two setups for motorcycles. one is a hi/low beam combination setup, which allows you to upgrade both beams at once, since its HID for both I believe, and one that is just for low beam, which is less expensive but doesnt have a high beam.

The k values are related to the "colour temperature", this varies from orangeish yellow like a candle flame to blue white like summer in the arctic.
My understanding is that with cheap HID you do not have proper dip/main beam. The expensive ones overcome this by using a solenoid to physically move the lamp to create dip or main. I think the cheap ones may fail an MOT or country equivalent test.

The DDM kits are far from cheap quality. here stateside, they're actually very respected kits. and what you need is actualy a PROJECTOR housing, to use an HID best. the traditional glass headlight housing just will not focus the beam as well as a good projector will.

Ain't the XT's stock headlight good enough for the job?

I actually was on the motorcycle part... but I clicked on the DUAL set..they are also 40$ but the HI-lo H4 bulbs are +20$ which makes the 60$...

My brothers HID kit is also a 35W H4 but 4300k and china made I think AND E-marked.. so it's legal here in Europe.

If he won't sell it I'll keep it and give it try :innocent:

I wouldnt touch the chinese HID kit. they've got a tendancy toward failing, possibly causing bike fire, which you dont want. The BIG problem I have with chinese HID stuff, since I had one, is the high beam is still halogen, and dies quickly. since some of us(me) use the high beam now and then, its critical that it work when we need it. since its not replaceable, that basically made the kit worthless.

DDM is USA made if I'm not mistaken. Not sure if they're legal in Europe, but that can be answered with a simple email to them I would think.

Just found out they aren't legal afterall...

Xenon needs wipers and some sort of tilt suspension-controled mechanism to be road legal....

Not that I can imagine a COP pulling me over and actually measuring the Lumens...

And for the MOT I could always put a H4 bulb back in it and switch it back afterwards :innocent:

Plus, I would ride with it pointing down, not the moon..

buy a projector headlight, something like the one in this link will do what you need legally. although I BELIEVE you can obtain a headlight like the square ones used in our bikes, that has a projector fitted in it, or if you tried, you coul modify and retrofit one to your stock housing.

In Denmark, cars need to have "windscreen"wipers, and auto adjustment of the bulb/headlight.

On bikes you dont, but he bike needs to be "certified" to use xenon, and very very few are.

When you just put a xenonkit in your're stock headlight/reflector, at spreads the light very much. So eventho you beam hits the road, theres a lot of "glare" going to the sides, straight out and even up, blinding others.

Im NOT a fan, try riding on the highway in the rain at night, and meet one of thoose cagedrivers with a styled out shitcar, with xenon. You'll be blind for 5 minutes, and cant even see the instruments on the bike when hes coming against you.

So I've been scratching my head and I think I found an option to get a supposed HID projector lens into an aftermarket headlight assembly...

Remove the two Halogens, make a mold of the interior with some fiberglass and assemble that HID projector!

Keep in mind that this WON'T make you go blind so don't bi**h around lol!
The xenon projector lens is the way to make the light directional!
It is not just a HID lamp like most dumbarses out there fit into their cars and bikes that make you go blind!

Also, it's a 4500k light. It is a white color light. no blue sh*t UV light. The bike is not a christmas tree lol
