Gearbox output shaft seal XT600E

I seem to have a slight on/off leak on the left hand side of the engine and suspect it's the gearbox output shaft seal. Fortunately no horrible noises, so it appears just to be a leak.
Question, can I replace the seal by removing the retaining cover, prising out the old one and pressing in a new seal? The Clymer manual doesn't really advise.

Thanks - Bish

The procedure is exactly as you describe.

Take care not to push the new seal in too far, getting it out again will certainly damage it.

Thanks Auke

It seemed logical but not having had to change one yet, I thought I would ask.

At least it's cheap only about E5.

Cheers Bish

You're welcome.

In my experience, the only good seals for this are the Yam standards.

The seal was straightforward to fit - an improvised special tool - a bicycle spoke! Proved ideal for pulling out the old seal. I did take great care not to push the new one in too far - as Auke said, it would be pretty easy to do.
