Gearbox output shaft seal XT600E
I seem to have a slight on/off leak on the left hand side of the engine and suspect it's the gearbox output shaft seal. Fortunately no horrible noises, so it appears just to be a leak.
Question, can I replace the seal by removing the retaining cover, prising out the old one and pressing in a new seal? The Clymer manual doesn't really advise. Thanks - Bish |

The procedure is exactly as you describe.
Take care not to push the new seal in too far, getting it out again will certainly damage it. Auke |

Thanks Auke
It seemed logical but not having had to change one yet, I thought I would ask. At least it's cheap only about E5. Cheers Bish |

You're welcome.
In my experience, the only good seals for this are the Yam standards. Auke |

The seal was straightforward to fit - an improvised special tool - a bicycle spoke! Proved ideal for pulling out the old seal. I did take great care not to push the new one in too far - as Auke said, it would be pretty easy to do.
