gearbox build
So trying to rebuid my tenere gearbox,the old shorter kickstart gearbox transmission works fine but when I put the electric start transmission in the casings it jams up.
I,ve measured everythng and for the life of me can,t figure out whats wrong. Any one with gearbox experiance out there got any idea,s for me....cheers

Could be the starter clutch jamed,check that it locks one way and spins free the other

Do you mean its jamming when you try to start it or do you mean its jamming trying to put the starter in the casing?

The cases are split and I,m rebuilding the whole engine....have got new electric start cases and when I put the the old gearbox shafts in its works fine but on replacing the short kickstart shaft with the longer electric start on it locks up.I,m going to count the teeth on the gear and see if thats the problem.......

Still not got round to doing anything and am just out of surgery on my shoulder so I won,t be lifting anything for the next 5 weeks at least.
Its an xt 600z 1vj tenere from 86,it was an electric start but it cracked the casings due to the counterbalance bearing being shot. It was replaced with a kick start engine and I now want to put the original engine in. My mate Blair who I bought it off had all the bits to put it back together but went off to live the dream in Australia. I got the casings from Germany and will now try and rebuilb it. It is a top adventure bike with plenty of grunt and good tank size and long suspension so I really would like to get it on the road again.......
